Is it a Smart Choice?

When I first laid eyes on the Alienware notebook computer, I was shocked. Sure the specs were great, but to build a gaming computer with the exact same specs would cost thousands of dollars. Goodbye-Forever Gaming- MO-Champ. Goodbye. Goodbye-forever.

Well, OK, so it wasn’t cheap when I bought it (around $1300 for me), but compared to the gaming notebooks available, it actually was not that much overpriced. If I remember correctly, the Alienware notebook was around two-thousand dollars when I purchased it. Now, the price tag doesn’t lie. So in reality, I saved myself over four thousand dollars just by purchasing a pcpartpicker and building my gaming computer from scratch myself.

To get started with building my own alienware computer, I downloaded the pcpartpicker software and followed the instructions that were provided in the download. I had to install the software, create my own userid and password, enter in my serial port (so I could use my computer without the aid of an extra keyboard or mouse), select my drive, hard disk (cd rom) size and then select my operating system (I chose XP Home Edition). I also had to create a username and password for myself. After those things were complete, I was ready to go!

To get the best performance out of my alienware computer, I installed the graphics card first. Then, I clicked on the “New” button on the control panel. With the Alienware Graphics Card installed, it was pretty much smooth sailing. The next thing I did, was to change the graphic card resolution from ” Default ” mode to ” Custom ” mode. This made a big difference, as my game graphics showed up life on the screen a lot better.

I didn’t want to spend a fortune on a gaming laptop, so I set out to do some research on the internet. What I learned about building gaming PCs was very interesting. For one thing, there is no need to overprice your system, as I had been led to believe. All I needed was a little knowledge about how computers work, a little patience, some tools and I was good to go!

In fact, I didn’t even have to purchase the extra hardware that I mentioned earlier. I just had to save up enough money to be able to upgrade my RAM (which by the way is completely non negotiable when it comes to alienware computers), and install the right operating system for my laptop. You see, what I found out about knowledge computers asset software is that you can build them yourself, for a fraction of the price of the original. I simply downloaded a guide that showed me the process step by step, and in about an hour, I had my Alienware laptop up and running like a new one!
